How to Throw a “Three Rex” Birthday Party
I’m not the only one in my family to throw cute, themed birthday parties for my toddlers — my sister does, too! This three-rex birthday party was put together for my nephew by his mom and is one of the absolute cutest dinosaur-themed birthday parties I’ve attended to date (okay, it might also be the only one, but still).
P (my nephew) is obsessed with dinosaurs and can name 90% of the “most common ones,” or, at least, can name way more than I can. So, it’s not very surprising that he picked dinosaurs for his birthday party.
I give all credit to my sister because the only thing I helped with was getting her littles into their dinosaur-themed outfits and taking the pictures!

My Nephew’s “Three-Rex” Birthday Party
I give mad props to my sister for nailing such a cute birthday; she even dressed her littles in cute dinosaur-themed outfits! She stuck with the green dinosaur theme, only excluding P’s outfit (which made the birthday boy stand out).
She found her outfits online through a small retailer, which essentially means it’d be hard to find the same outfits again! Etsy sells similar embroidered dinosaur shirts and toddler dresses/rompers, but nothing exactly matches.
The cake was made by a local baker and was the literal best. I do have a soft spot for number and letter-shaped cakes, but I promise this one was probably the cutest dinosaur cake I’ve seen!
But the cake wasn’t the only dinosaur-themed dessert on his birthday! There were so many little treats to choose from.
Dinosaur-Themed Snacks, Dirt, and Dessert
Don’t be alarmed by the idea of dinosaur dirt; it was actually my son’s favorite part of the party, and he’s a terribly picky eater (but so am I).
Dinosaur dirt is a pudding and cookie mixed dirt-inspired dessert that’s every toddler’s chocolate dream. She used this super easy-to-follow recipe by Made to Be a Momma. She just modified the portion to be much smaller (more for three-year-olds).
But dinosaur dirt wasn’t the only dinosaur-themed snack you could choose from! She also divided the veggies and meat plates by “herbivores” and “carnivores” using the same mini-easels and a free Cricut font with her blue vinyl.
She finished snacks and desserts with dinosaur plates and fruit shaped like the number 3 (you can shop the same tray here).
Dino Decorations and Games
While my sister put a lot of effort into decorations (as you can tell with the tablecloth), she put a lot of effort and time into creating games for the littles to play and preparing gift bags to take home.
First, let’s take a second to appreciate the dinosaur balloon decor, which survived until the end of the party (the other balloon dinosaur did not).
Anyways, the main games were coloring and digging for dinosaurs! The toddlers spent so much time digging and burying dinos. It was amazing (I will do this as a summer/winter break activity).
She used a simple storage bin, a bag of clean sand, and a bag of toy dinosaurs.
Cute right? I thought so! But, the fun dinosaur things didn’t stop there. She also set up an area to “Adopt a Dino” and take a stuffed one home, along with a goodie bag with dino-themed things and some Play-Doh.
How to Throw a Three Rex Birthday Party
A huge part of planning this party was picking what she wanted to do and how to style it. There are sooo many different directions she could’ve gone with this party, but she kept it simple yet on theme.
She also focused more on the activities my nephew would enjoy rather than working just to create an aesthetic (although she definitely did that, too). Of course, she’s a master planner, so a birthday party like this is right up her alley!
