Spooky Season Photos: A DIY Ghost Sheet Photoshoot
Ever since I saw this trend a while back, I KNEW I wanted to do it–I just need the right excuse! Thankfully, my blogging business came in clutch (if you didn’t know, I write blogs for companies via my business, The Comma Mama Co) as I wanted to do a full swap for October to promote the launch of a new freebie—and potentially create a recurring theme where every year I try a new Halloween trend and let it take over everything (because, why not?).
Anyway, it turned out SO much better than I could have imagined, AND it was so much easier to do than I thought. Let’s get into my DIY Ghost Sheet photos:
How to DIY Your Sheet Ghost Photos
Honestly, the whole process was extremely simple. I think what took the longest was prepping—or rather, deciding—what props I wanted to bring. I actually left what I really wanted to bring at home (a spooky book because what ghost doesn’t read), but I’m happy with what I brought.
The photos were taken by Adrianna Joy, my fave local photographer (she also did our beach photos this year; I’ll have to share those later), but you can absolutely do this on your own! I will say there’s a lot of editing that goes into getting the grainy, vintage feel and the colors right, so just make sure you set aside enough time.
We took the photos on a local golf course (with permission, of course) and just hung out where the golfers weren’t! Plus, it was closing time, so we dodged all the flying balls.
I also brought my husband, who said at the end, “You realize you only spent 10 minutes taking photos of yourself, and the remaining 50 minutes, you had a sheet on your head?” And to that, I say, yes, I did realize it, but it was funny when he said it like that (he also tagged along, as you can see in the background).
Okay, now for the actual instructions and the list of things to get. For myself, I brought:
- This Full-size White top sheet from Amazon, don’t get a twin; it’ll be too small!
- Black sunglasses (I grabbed mine clearance from Target), but these are a close match.
- Black bat fishnet tights to go under my jeans.
- Dried Hydrangeas (thanks to my grandmother, Melody, who sent them home after our apple-picking visit)
- Witchy Mug from TJ Maxx a few years ago, but I thought about swapping it for this one.
- My computer (mostly for my brand photo aspect; you don’t need it unless that’s the vibe).
- The tee is from a friend’s shop on Facebook, you can check it out here (just don’t forget to mention I sent you!)
- Black High-Top Converse that I’ve literally had forever.

Now that you’ve got everything you need, let’s get into the actual photos and how they turned out. Like I said before, you will have to spend some time on edits, and everyone has a different preference, so do what feels right for you!
There are a few styles you can start with (they’re preset) that give you a similar look, like these:
The Final Photos: My DIY Ghost Photoshoot
There’s not much left now, but I want to show you the final looks! I will share mostly the ones that are just “fun” and not so much business since you don’t necessarily need a computer like me.
Here’s the final look:
Honestly, there we’re so many good ones it was hard to pick my favorites!! But, if I shared them all you’d have to look through 100+ images and it would take absolutely forever.
