I’ve always been obsessed with the little sticky wall bats that so many people add to their walls for Halloween — and I was temporarily convinced that I was going to DIY my wall bats (I have a Cricut, I do love to get crafty, and I have another blog, The Hobby Mom, where those two combine), but it was way more time consuming than just buying.
After snagging my bats (for around $5 on sale, mind you), I came to the issue of how the heck I would make them look good. I figured it out, so I’m here to share everything with you, too.

Where to Buy (or DIY) Your 3D Wall Bats

These bats are made from PVC and are reusable, which is why I picked them! They come with little stickies to attach them to your wall (to be determined if it pulls any paint off; so far, that’s a no) and a bunch of different sizes to give you the cascading effect.
While I grabbed the classic black bat, they also offered multiple different styles like glitter, glow-in-the-dark, iridescent, and even cut-out/mesh types.
If you do want to DIY your bats, you absolutely can! Here’s an SVG from Etsy with a few different bat styles included.
How to Style Your Bats on Your Wall
There’s a trick to it — sort of. The key is to not be super judgemental of yourself (been there) and to have a general idea of what you like or want it to look like BEFORE you start.
For example, do you want it to be a nice little “S” curve, or are you trying to create a “V” across your wall? From there, choose how many bats are involved (you can do the bare minimum and add more later).
Here’s what you’ll do next:
- Pick your bats beforehand and make sure they have all their stickies on and are ready for you to put up.
- Hang your biggest bats first. Aim to give a general shape, for example, an S curve or C.
- Add in your mediums to start filling it out.
- Fill in with the littlest bats! You can use as many (or as few) as you want.
- Walk away after you’re done! We tend to get into our heads about the way it looks 😅 coming back later takes some of that stress off!
It’ll look something like this:

When in doubt, work your way from the biggest bats to the smallest! Here’s the final look after adding the smallest bats I had:

Once you do it a few times, it’ll feel much more natural, and you’ll know what you like (and what you don’t). Also, the stickies that come with the bats — at least, the ones that came with this pack — unstick and restick easily so you can adjust your bats as you go!
