My Twinkle Twinkle Little Star Gender Reveal
Back in February of 2019, I decided to have a gender reveal party to figure out whether or not Carson was going to be a little girl – or little boy! Obviously, he’s a little man! But we didn’t know that then! To celebrate our first little together, my husband and I decided to have an entire Twinkle Twinkle Little Star gender reveal.
Even though the theme was decided before we took the blood test for gender, my sister accidentally spilled the beans a few days before (no surprise) – but the blue fit in the end!
Psst… If you have a party and it’s time to get planning, download this free party planning checklist and make it *that* much easier!
DIY’ing The Twinkle Twinkle Little Star Reveal Cake
My sister made the cake – chocolate with buttercream frosting and an insane amount of sprinkles (my idea) and it was PERFECT. She used the Duncan Hines Cake batter with Betty Crocker icing and mwah!
To get the sprinkles to cover the cake, she had to mat them down in handfuls soon after icing the cake – once your cake starts “hardening” or as much as icing stiffens, it’s much harder to get your sprinkles to stick.
And while we love fancy cakes, DIY-ing it has been a habit of ours! Another great example is the cake for our daughter’s first birthday party (who came two years after this reveal).
Twinkle Twinkle Little Star Gender Reveal Decor
Although it never quite made it as a certain piece of the photos, the backdrop was gorgeous and just what I was looking for! I found it on Amazon for less than $20 here.
That and the gold and blue balloons were the main features – and pretty much the only decorations we opted for! It really was a simple party, which we loved!
I was also gifted the little moon pin on my shirt by one of my aunts, she does DIY things for nearly every celebration.
My only regret is not getting a bigger size in the backdrop! While it was still great for photos, we were unable to back up and take better photos since it didn’t stretch far enough. We were essentially stuck posing in one spot!
It also limited who could be in the photo too. Two people fit great, anything more than that made it just a little difficult to get us and the backdrop in the photo.
Revealing Our Baby’s Gender: A DIY First Attempt
I thought of this great idea of throwing a balloon with the gender color paint in it – little did I know how difficult it is to fill thin balloons with paint or pop a thick balloon on a little tack.
We figured it out – but what you can’t see in this picture is that I forcefully popped the balloon directly onto the canvas. And I had little specks of paint all over me and my first official maternity shirt for the rest of the day.
Still, the canvas is one of my favorite decor items for Carson’s bedroom (which will probably move to my office once he gets a little bit bigger). I don’t think the canvas was a bad idea, but it definitely should have been a little more prepared and thought out before the gender reveal party.
Canvas, paint, balloon, and Sharpie were all purchased at the local hobby lobby for less than $25!
