7+ Halloween Board Books Perfect for Your Toddler

Parenting

I’m not big on gifting candy (for any holiday), and Halloween isn’t any different—plus they’re just gonna get a bunch of candy ON Halloween when we go trunk-or-treating, they don’t need any more from me.

But I AM a huge sucker for getting my kid’s holiday-themed things when the seasons roll around, and considering Halloween or “spooky season” is by far one of my favorite times of the year (I mean, just look at this ghost photo shoot I did or this cutesy ghost cake), it shouldn’t surprise you that Halloween board books are top on my list of gifts.

It’s even better considering my youngest of the three (who turned two this year) is obsessed with books! But, let’s get into my top recommendations for this Halloween when it comes to board books:

The Best Halloween Board Books for Toddlers

  1. Halloween Is Coming! Hardcover by Cal Everett (Author), Lenny Wen (Illustrator) – this one is my 2-year-old’s favorite!
  2. Ghost Afraid of the Dark by Sara Conway (Author), Alex Willmore (Illustrator) – I actually snagged this one for my 6-year-old (although he’s not so much a toddler anymore).
  3. Booook! A Spooky High-Contrast Book by duopress labs (Author), Jannie Ho (Illustrator) – this is only one of many in the high-contrast learning series!
  4. Boo! Baa, La La La! Board book by Sandra Boynton (Author, Illustrator) – a remake of her classic Moo, Baa, La La La!
  5. Goodnight Train Halloween Board Book: A Soothing Adventure to Bedtime on the Goodnight Train Board book by June Sobel (Author), Laura Huliska-Beith (Illustrator)
  6. Llama Llama Trick or Treat Board book by Anna Dewdney (Author, Illustrator) – this is a top pick if your little one is in school! They usual have listen books for Llama Llama Red Pajama and this ties in!
  7. Spooky Pookie (Little Pookie) Board book by Sandra Boynton (Author, Illustrator) – her books have been around for awhile which is why there are two on the list.
  8. My First How to Catch a Witch by Alice Walstead (Author), Joel Selby (Illustrator), Ashley Selby (Illustrator) – this is another favorite of my two-year-old!!

Other Fall & Halloween Things Your Toddler Will Love….

Gifting isn’t the only way to show your toddler you love them this fall! In fact, a book is the only gift (we don’t do “boo baskets” here). Everything else is DIY crafts or family adventures to the local kid-friendly places.

For example, we always head to the local Zoo to go “trick-or-treating” in their costumes. We also love doing a trip to the pumpkin patch or to the Apple Orchard (we go to Grandad’s Apples n’ Such yearly)!

There are plenty of things to do within any budget (and any time frame) it’s just finding what works for you and your littles!

Hey, I’m Mckayla

Mom of three littles all under 10, work-from-home entrepreneur, bread baker, and accidental gardener. I started Everyday She Moms because I wanted to create a judgment-free space where moms like us could find real advice, relatable stories, and an honest laugh when we need it most.

This isn’t a Pinterest-perfect corner of the internet — it’s a place built on the belief that good enough really is enough, and that we’re all figuring this out as we go.
